Pre-Setting a Frame's WiFi Network

How can I give an Aura Frame to someone who does not have a smart device?

Aura Frames require a smart device to set up the frame and to connect it to a (2.4GHz) WiFi network.

If you want to give the frame to someone who doesn't have access to a smart device or to our web uploader, you have the following setup alternatives: 

    1. Physically take the frame to their home and use your own smart device to set it up.

    2. Pre-set the recipient's WiFi credentials on the frame so that it automatically connects to their network once connected to power. 

What do I need to know before  considering pre-setting the WiFi: 

  • The final recipient requires a standard (2.4GHz) WiFi network, supported by most modern dual-band routers.
  • Any network troubleshooting will require a frame member to be onsite to troubleshoot.
  • You cannot pre-set a Captive or Enterprise WiFi network (which may be used in care homes).

  • The frame needs to be in your possession to pre-set the final recipient's WiFi network. You cannot do this as part of our virtual Gift preparation.

  • You must know the recipient's WiFi name and password and correctly pre-enter them (e.g. upper/lower cases, spaces, special characters).

  • Although the final recipient will no longer require a smart device to set up the frame, they will only have limited control over the frame settings. However, friends and family that have been invited to the recipient's frame can remotely change all settings via their own Aura app.
