Yes, you can safely take your Aura frame with you when you travel by air.
Aura LCD frames contain a small, non-removable, non-rechargeable lithium metal battery (also known as a button battery). This battery helps your frame retain basic settings, such as the time, when it’s unplugged from power.
Aura Ink has a non-serviceable, non-removable Lithium-Ion Battery because this frame is cordless and only requires the included USB-C cord and adapter while charging.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), electronic devices that contain lithium batteries (like smartphones, tablets, cameras, and laptops) can be carried on a plane.
How to pack your Aura frame for air travel
To keep your frame safe and compliant with airline regulations, follow these steps:
Unplug the frame. Disconnect the power cable from your Aura frame.
Pack in your carry-on. Place both the frame and the cable in your hand luggage rather than checked baggage.
Protect from damage. Add soft padding (like clothing or bubble wrap) around the frame and cable to prevent scratches or cracks.
Keep the retail box separate. You can place the original blue Aura box in your checked luggage and repack the frame once you arrive.
Be ready for inspection. Having the frame in your carry-on makes it easier for border control or airport security to inspect if needed.
Why carry-on is best
While you can check in devices with lithium batteries if they’re completely powered off and protected from damage, the FAA recommends keeping them in your carry-on baggage whenever possible.
