By default, your Aura frame automatically adjusts its brightness based on the light in the room, turning off when it’s dark and on when it senses light. This setting is called Auto On/Off, and the brightness cannot be adjusted manually.
If you’d prefer more control over when your frame turns on or off, you can schedule fixed on and off times using the Aura app. You can also manually turn the frame off using the Touch Bar (on supported models) or by unplugging the frame.
Auto On/Off (Default Behavior)
When Auto On/Off is enabled, your frame matches the room’s brightness level and goes to sleep whenever the room is dark. It will automatically turn back on when it senses light again.
This is the default setting for all Aura frames.
Using the Schedule (Sleep Timer)
If you want your frame to turn on and off at the same times every day, regardless of the brightness in the room, you can use the Schedule option. This feature is sometimes referred to as the frame’s sleep timer.
Important notes before setting a schedule
The frame must already be set up on a WiFi network for this option to appear
If you are preparing a frame as a gift and WiFi has not been set up yet, the Schedule option will not be available
How to Set a Schedule for Your Frame
Open the Aura app to view your home screen
Tap on the frame you want to set a schedule for
Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner
-
Scroll to the Device section and tap On/Off, which will show Auto by default
-
Select Schedule to open the timer options
Set a time for Display On (when the frame turns on)
-
Set a time for Display Off (when the frame turns off)
Exit the settings to save your changes
Once a schedule is set, your Aura frame will turn on and off at the designated times each day.
Time Zone Settings
If your frame appears to turn on or off at the wrong time, check the Time Zone setting in the Schedule menu. Make sure the frame is set to the correct time zone for its location.
How to Manually Turn Off Your Frame
Using the Touch Bar
If your frame model includes a Touch Bar, you can use it to manually turn your frame off. This support article explains how to do this and includes a demonstration video, click here.
Note for Aspen Frame Users
The Aspen frame also features a Touch Bar for browsing and interacting with photos, but it does not support turning the frame off via the Touch Bar. Instead, Aspen has a dedicated sleep/wake button located on the back of the frame.
Unplugging Your Frame
You can also unplug your frame from the electrical outlet at any time. This will not damage your frame, affect your photos, or change your settings. When you plug the frame back in, it will continue displaying your photos.
Since Aura occasionally sends frame software updates, we recommend leaving your frame powered on when possible. If you miss an update while the frame is unplugged, it will automatically catch up once the frame is powered back on for a while.
