Aura’s Carver, Buddy, and Gallerie (Costco-exclusive) frames use a landscape-optimized screen that enables our exclusive Photo Match feature sometimes referred to as split screen. By default, Photo Match is turned on and automatically pairs two portrait photos side-by-side to fill the widescreen display with beautiful, unexpected combinations.
Other Aura frame models (Mason, Aspen, Walden) are designed to display photos beautifully in both portrait and landscape orientations, so they don’t use this split-screen pairing behavior. Please note that Photo Match pairs images automatically and cannot be manually curated. This behavior is the same whether your frame is set to shuffle or chronological mode.
Deactivating "Photo Match"
If you don't want your Carver / Gallerie frame to always display two portrait photos together, you can disable this feature:
-
Open the Aura app and on the app homepage tap on your frame
-
Then, tap on the settings menu in the top right corner
- You can now turn "Photo Match" to OFF
Since the frame will first finish the current slide show (= going through all photos), it can take a while until the change takes place. Force-closing the app can help speed up the process.
Your frame will now stop pairing your portrait photos and they will be displayed in the middle of the frame instead. If you want to manually reposition them, please visit this Support Article for more information.
| Note: Carver and Gallerie frames are optimized for landscape photos so it is perfectly normal that single portrait photos will have black bars on the left and right sides since they cannot fill the entire frame. |
Note: You can also select your preferred background options under settings in the Aura application. Photos will be displayed in the center of your frame with either a black background or a filled background.
