Different ways to reset a frame
On rare occasions, you may have to reset your Aura frame to factory settings, and there are two different ways of doing so:
"Hardware" Reset (a.k.a Factory or Factory Data Reset)
Pressing the reset button with a pin or paper clip returns the frame to its original setup state and removes all photos, videos, and frame members. As long as you remain a member of the frame, your Aura account is active, and you do not remove the frame from the Aura app, we should be able to help restore your frame after the reset. If you’ve added captions to your photos, these will also be restored.
"Software" Reset
Resetting your frame through the Aura Frames app will permanently delete all content and members from the frame. If you use this option, Aura will NOT be able to restore the content when you set up the frame again. This is the safest choice if you no longer use the frame and want to make sure all your content is removed, such as when selling or gifting it.
1) Performing a "Hardware" Reset (a.k.a Factory or Factory Data Reset)
Most Aura frame comes with a special reset hole, located on the bottom or back of the frame, typically near the power cable adapter. For the Aspen and Smith frames, remove the stand to reveal the reset hole. The Aura Ink 13" does not have a reset hole.

Once you have located the reset hole, keep the frame connected to power and follow these steps:
- Press a small paperclip into the reset hole until you hear a soft click or feel that the button has been pressed.
- Maintain the pressure for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes dark, and then a "Factory Data Reset" message appears on the display.
- You can now withdraw the paperclip while the frame resets itself and displays an "Erasing" message.
- Once completed, the frame will turn on again and display the Aura stock image with the 4-digit Bluetooth pairing code. The actual image may vary by model, but the 4-digit code confirms that the reset was successful.
- If you didn't see the "Factory Data Reset" or "Erasing" message and your frame doesn't display the 4-digit code either, please repeat the process. You may need to try this multiple times.
Next, open your Aura Frames app, tap the three lines in the top left corner, and scroll down to the "+ New Frame" option to set up the frame again using these steps: How to set up your Aura frame (VIDEO).

If you want to restore the reset frame's content and contributors once the frame has been set up again, please share the serial number with Aura's Customer Care Team so they can restore it for you. |
2) Performing a "Software" Reset
To irreversibly reset an Aura frame, please follow the steps in Section 2: Removing the frame from everybody's app with a factory reset, as outlined in the article Removing a Frame From Your App.
| When using the software reset option, you will not be able to restore the reset frame's content or contributors, and you'll have to start the new frame from scratch (see How to set up your Aura frame). |
