A) Setting up a frame for a user that has no smart phone or tablet
A friend or family member will have to assist with their smart phone and our free Aura Frames app. There are two setup options:
Option 1 (Onsite): Setting up the frame at the user's home
If logistically possible, the easiest way would be for a friend or family member to set up the frame onsite, at the user's home. To do so, they will need to follow these steps:
- Install the free Aura Frames app from the Apple or Google Play (Android) App Store
- Create a free Aura Frames account when prompted by the app

IMPORTANT: the first installation step will ask who the frame is for. Please select "it's for me", not "it's for someone else". The second option will start the gift preparation mode which is not the correct path for setting up a frame on behalf of the owner. -
Other frame members can also be invited to the frame, and each frame member can remotely:

- upload photos and videos

control most of the frame settings, including slideshow intervals, On-Off timer, member invites.
- Exception: changing the frame's WiFi configuration > for data security, any WiFi changes have to be done onsite.

Option 2 (Remote): Pre-Setting the user's WiFi connection
Sometimes, it is not possible to set up somebody else's frame onsite. We therefore offer a gift preparation option that allows the giver to pre-set the recipient's WiFi connection in advance if they are in physical possession of the frame. Once the final user's WiFi credentials are pre-set, the frame can be sent to the recipient where it will automatically find and connect to the pre-set WiFi network.
To pre-set the final recipient's WiFi configuration, please follow these steps:
- Install the free Aura Frames app from the Apple or Google Play (Android) App Store
- Create a free Aura Frames account when prompted by the app

Create a new frame and select that the frame is for “Someone else”
- Next, select "Plug in the frame"
- Pair the frame with the phone/tablet via the displayed 4-digit bluetooth code

The app will now initiate the Gift Preparation process and the giver can:
- Add a gift message (optional)
- Upload photos / videos (optional)
- Invite other frame members (optional)
- Chose the WiFi connection
- Select "Chose the WiFi connection" and "Pre-Set WiFi"

Input the recipient's WiFi network name and password
IMPORTANT: Be 100% sure of the WiFi credentials and avoid typing mistakes. If you input the details incorrectly, the frame will fail to connect to the recipient's network and an invited frame member needs to use the Aura app to change the WiFi settings onsite. - The frame will now save the connection and display a confirmation on the display, referencing the recipient's WiFi name. You can now unplug the frame, put it back in the box and send / deliver it to the final recipient where it should automatically connect to their network.
B) Controlling the frame without a smart phone or tablet
If followed correctly, both the above setup options will end with the frame being connected to the owner's WiFi network without them needing a smart phone or tablet. Moving forward, the frame can be controlled as follows:

Owners that don't have a smart phone/tablet can use the physical Touch Bar for certain functions: change photos, remove photos, turn frame on / off, play back video audio. |
Member(s) (invited, with smart devices) |
Invited frame members that use the Aura Frames app on their smart device have control over all frame features as listed in this FAQ. They can - remotely - change certain settings on behalf of the user (On-Off schedule, slide show settings etc) but WiFi connection changes can only be made onsite. |
