This article explains how to change the WiFi network of a frame that has already been set up. If you need to change the network to connect the frame to a "captive network", please read this article instead. Typically, updating your WiFi can be done through the frame’s settings. However, if this method does not work, setting up the frame as a new device will help reconnect it without losing your photos or contributors.
You may need to do this if:
- You changed your router or your network name
- You moved the frame to a new location with a new (residential) network
Note: To ensure that our frames are always secure:

Follow these steps to update your frame’s WiFi. If the first method does not work, proceed to the second option.
Method 1: Change WiFi in Frame Settings
-
Plug in the Aura frame and make sure it is near the WiFi router.
-
The frame's display will show a 4 digit number along with the message, "Couldn't join the network 'X.' Please try again in the Aura app."
-
Open the Aura app and tap onto the frame in which you would like to change the WiFi network.
-
Tap the
icon in the top right corner to open the frame settings, then tap on the WiFi network name next to "WiFi Network":
-
Tap "Change WiFi Network" to disconnect from the old/current WiFi network so you can connect to a different network.
-
Grant the Aura app Bluetooth permission (you may have to go into your smart device's settings menu) so it can pair with your frame and allow you to select - or manually enter - the new WiFi network name.
- Enter the WiFi credentials and tap "Save" or "Join".
If for some reason the above does not work - and you can't see your WiFi network - please go back to the Aura app Frame Settings page and tap on "WiFi Network" once again. With some routers (Comcast in particular), it can take 2-3 attempts until the network is displayed in the app. If your third attempt fails, please unplug your WiFi router and try again shortly after your router has fully rebooted. |
If your WiFi network still doesn't appear, please ensure that it actually supports the 2.4 GHz standard, before following the below steps.
If your app or frame says "Couldn't join the network "_____". Please try again in the Aura app." or "Unable to connect to WiFi network", please check out our WiFi Troubleshooting FAQ.
Method 2: Set Up as a New Frame
Note: Although this work-around will be creating a "new" frame, any photos and contributors that had already been on your frame will still be on the frame once you reconnect it using the below workaround.
-
Plug in the Aura frame and make sure it is near the WiFi router.
-
Open the Aura app, tap on the "A" icon in the top left corner and tap the "+ New Frame" button at the bottom of the page.
- Next, select whether you want to set up the frame for yourself ("It's for me") or as a gift for somebody else ("someone else") and follow the steps to connect your frame to the correct WiFi network.
